There are no cars on Railay, which is wonderful right up until you cannot walk. A sprained ankle, a night of vomiting or a fever that has flattened you turns a five-minute stroll along the beach path into something genuinely out of reach. A doctor resort visit in Railay solves that the only way it can be solved here — the doctor walks to you, with the medication, fluids and test kits already in the bag.
Where we come, and how long it takes
We cover Railay West, Railay East, Phra Nang and Tonsai on foot. Most visits reach the room within about thirty minutes, and often sooner on Railay East where the clinic is closest.
Tonsai deserves a note of its own. It is reachable on foot from Railay West at low tide over the rocks, and by boat when the tide is in. If you are staying at Tonsai and cannot walk, tell us the state of the tide when you call — it changes whether the doctor arrives on foot or by longtail, and therefore how long it takes.
We visit resorts, bungalows, hostels and long-stay rooms alike. Reception does not need to arrange anything, and if you would rather meet the doctor at the path than have them come to the room, that is completely fine.
What a doctor can do in your room
Considerably more than most people assume. The visiting bag is close to a mobile treatment room:

- IV drips for dehydration, vomiting and heat illness

When a resort visit is the right call
It suits anyone too unwell, too sore or too immobile to walk. On a peninsula where every journey is on foot or by boat, “cannot walk” is a far more limiting condition than it would be somewhere with taxis.
The clearest cases are relentless vomiting or diarrhoea, a fever that has floored you, a badly sprained ankle after a ground fall, and young children who would find a clinic visit distressing at the end of a long day.
It also suits people who would simply rather keep things private. Sexual health concerns and hangover treatment are handled discreetly in the room, nothing appears on a resort bill, and we do not discuss your care with resort staff.
When you should not wait for us to walk over
A resort visit adds travel time, and for some problems that time matters more than the convenience. Call 1669 and call us at the same time if there is:
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing at rest
- A head injury with vomiting, confusion or loss of consciousness
- Weakness or numbness down one side, or slurred speech
- Bleeding that will not stop with firm pressure
- Anyone who cannot be roused
In those cases the priority is getting to the mainland, not getting a doctor to the room — see evacuation and hospital transfer. If you are unsure, describe it on the phone and you will be told plainly which it is.
What it costs
A resort visit costs more than being seen at the clinic, for the straightforward reason that a doctor leaves the building and cannot see anyone else while walking to Tonsai and back. The call-out fee covers the travel and the consultation.
Anything used in the room — an IV bag, an injection, a dressing, a rapid test, medication — is itemised on top and quoted before it is given. You are told the likely total on the phone before the doctor sets off, rather than at the end when you are least able to discuss it.
Payment is to the doctor by cash or card, and you get the same itemised receipt and English medical report you would receive at the clinic.
How to make the call useful
A few details genuinely change what goes in the bag. Tell us the main symptom and when it started, whether there is a fever and how high, whether anything is staying down, what has already been taken today, and any regular medication or allergies.
For a child, give their age and rough weight, because paediatric doses are calculated by weight and it saves a second trip. For an injury, say whether weight can be put on the limb at all.
Then give the practical detail that matters here more than the address: which beach, which resort, and — for Tonsai — whether the tide is in or out. Much of Railay has no street numbering and no vehicle access, so a landmark and a phone that will be answered are worth more than an address.

No. We do not discuss your care with resort staff and nothing is added to your bill. Meeting the doctor at the path rather than the room is fine if you prefer.
Can you treat children in the room?
Yes, and children often do much better in a familiar room than in a clinic. Give the child’s age and weight when you call so the right medication comes along.
Can I claim a resort visit on travel insurance?
Usually yes. It is documented exactly like a clinic visit with the same itemised receipt and English report. Mention insurance when you call so the paperwork is prepared correctly.
