Urgent care and emergency care are not the same
The distinction matters more here than almost anywhere, because getting it wrong costs a boat crossing in one direction or a dangerous delay in the other.
We are an urgent care clinic. We handle problems that need attention today but are not immediately life-threatening, and we handle them faster than a hospital emergency department would — because we are not simultaneously managing road trauma and heart attacks.
A hospital is right for anything threatening life, breathing or the brain, and that means crossing to the mainland. What we do in those cases is stabilise, call ahead, and arrange the crossing, which is a genuine service in itself.
What we can deal with on the peninsula
More than most people expect from a clinic this size:
- Deep cuts needing stitches or skin glue
- Falls, sprains and suspected simple fractures — see climbing injury care
- High fever with same-visit dengue testing
- Severe vomiting and diarrhoea needing IV fluids
- Asthma attacks and allergic reactions
- Monkey and animal bites needing rabies treatment started immediately

The things that mean crossing to the mainland tonight
Do not wait for morning, and do not wait for us to travel to you, if there is:
- Chest pain, or breathlessness while sitting still
- Any loss of consciousness, however brief
- A head injury with vomiting, confusion or a blackout
- Weakness down one side, a drooping face, or slurred speech
- Bleeding that does not slow with firm sustained pressure
- A limb that is bent out of shape, or a wound with bone visible
- A seizure that will not stop, or anyone who cannot be roused

Why the boat changes the maths
On the mainland, an ambulance comes to you. Here, you go to the boat, the boat goes to Ao Nang, and an ambulance meets it. Every one of those steps takes time and one of them depends on the sea.
In good weather a longtail crossing to Ao Nang is roughly ten to fifteen minutes. In monsoon swell it is longer, occasionally unsafe, and after dark boatmen are harder to find at short notice. That is not a reason to panic, it is a reason to decide early — the single most common mistake we see is someone waiting three hours “to see how it goes” and then needing to cross in worse conditions and worse shape.

First aid that genuinely changes the outcome
Most first aid makes little difference. A handful makes a great deal:
- Bleeding — press hard on the exact spot with a clean cloth and keep pressing rather than lifting to check
- Burns — cool under running water for a full twenty minutes. Never ice
- Animal bites — wash under running water with soap for fifteen minutes before anything else
- Suspected fracture — support the limb as it lies, do not straighten it
- High fever — paracetamol only until dengue has been excluded
- Head injury — nobody sleeps alone that night
Bringing a child, or a friend who will not go
Parents apologise constantly and there is nothing to apologise for. Children get sicker faster and recover faster, and the sensible threshold for having a child looked at is far lower than for yourself. Come in without hesitating for any fever in a baby under three months, laboured breathing, a rash that does not fade under a glass, repeated vomiting, or a child who simply is not themselves.
The other frequent scene is a climber who has clearly hurt something and is insisting it is fine. Adrenaline masks pain for hours, and the peninsula rewards stubbornness badly — walking a mile back over rock on an ankle that turns out to be fractured makes everything harder. If in doubt, bring them, and if they will not come, ask for a doctor resort visit instead.

Are you open at night?
The clinic is open 8am to 10pm. Outside those hours a doctor is reachable by phone, WhatsApp and Line, and will tell you whether to wait until morning or arrange a crossing to the mainland.
What is the emergency number in Thailand?

Do you do X-rays?
No. If the examination suggests a fracture we refer you to a hospital in Krabi Town and send our findings with you, so nothing is repeated from the beginning.
How much does urgent treatment cost?
You pay the consultation fee plus what is actually used — dressings, sutures, strapping, IV fluids, medication. Everything beyond the consultation is quoted before it is done.
Can you come to me if I cannot walk?

What should I bring?
Passport and insurance details if they are to hand, plus any medication you already take. If someone has been hurt, bring the person rather than the paperwork.
